Artist Statement

Art is Dead, or so we have been lead to believe. The debate still rages on about what art is and what it should do for the audience.

I believe art is first and foremost an expression of the unconscious and conscious self. In the past 10 years I have explored the darker side of civilization and its impacts on the world and the people in it.

I use Sci-fi, Fantasy and Surrealism to explore the impact society has on individuals.

From self repression at the fear of society, to the destruction of the environment in the name of progress, my work explores the dark side our world.

From an early age i was interested in the roles and expectations placed on us by society, and the inequality that it creates. We, in fact, create our own suffering, by trying to be what society demands us to be. I feel the subconscious taps into the underlying paradox. I try to harness the subconscious visually. Like Pollock I believe the process of creating art is as important as the end product. To me art will only be truly dead when the process of its creation is lost, or it stops evolving.

“Geppetto’s Workshop” is a reinterpretation of pinochio. The creation of a living puppet. The android, like all of us, strives to feel fully alive, but the restraints in his programing, and the pressures of society, make him always a synthetic being. Feeling not quite real.

“The Banker” is a commentary on the animalistic nature of the corporate world. No matter how nice the cloths, or how professional the appearance, the animalistic predator side always takes over to feed on the week.

My work can be seen at the Wooden Cow Gallery in Albuquerque, or by appoinment at the studio.

I also work as a graphic designer, and can provide quotes on request.
